Theres a little article in the new March 2005 issue of GamePro magazine. The hit PC game "Half Life 2" is being made into an arcade game machine. I couldn't believe it but the mag has screenshots. The game is gonna have a Story Mode, the regular single player mode, a Battle mode (think online deathmatch but in an arcade with the ability to play the deathmatch against any one in the world as long as they are logged on a half life 2 arcade machine), and some kind of cooperative mode thing for multiplayer where its like a team base game where you work together to achieve the objectives. The magazine says that this mode will be like a rescue mission and a time attack mode. Of course half life 2 in the arcades does sound too good to be true and well it partially is. The arcade version of half life 2 is currently only going to launch in japanese arcades in the summer of 2005. Now the magazine also says that "Taito" is making the arcade port of the game. The game will use the NESYS system (I have no idea what it stands for) which is used in drift-racing arcade game battle gear 3, to save data- player information, and nationwide rankings which will be stored on Taito's servers. Now an arcade version of half life 2 sounds great. Unfortunately there is no mention as to wheter the game will see a release in american (or anywheres else) arcades. If it eventually makes its way into arcades across america then thats great and a lot more people would probably go to the arcade to try out the game (which is probably gonna be a bit different then the PC version). But for now the game will be in japan only but we can only hope for this game to come to american arcades.
Heh, and no this is not a joke or anything, this is for real. Go get the March 2005 issue of gamepro and read it as it does have an article about the game. I'm not sure but they may have an article on their website, www.gamepro.com so you can go there and look but I don't know if it is there or not.
