What are your oppinions on cloning and stem cell research? Should cloning humans be legal? Should making embryos just to kill them and get their stem cells be legal? If not, where should they be gotten from, if at all?

I believe any cloning of animals is unfair, but cloning plants is an excellent idea. And I don't mind stem cell research.

Didnt think of this before, but it kinda ties into my view on abortion. Until the baby can survive on its own outside the mother's body, I think its the mother's decision. So if you are Catholic dont get an abortion, but if you dont care go ahead. This also applies to the embryo thing too.

I personaly say that if it benifts science, and has a chance to improve all our lives, go for it. Regardless of moral conflicts. The possitive out wheighs the negative. As for stem cell research, I don't think scientists should make embryos for their stem cells, since there are other ways to get them. But if they need to, I will not be the one to tell them they can't. And, as far as abortion goes, it's the mother's choice. Granted I don't think it's a good choice, but it is their right to have it.

Well what I'm saying is that wether that potential life has potential is the mother's desicion. So if you were pregnant you wouldnt get an abortion/donate embryos to stem cell reasearch, but I possible would (hypotheticly speaking of course). You see that way we wouldnt have to make a law based on when a portion of the country believes. The problem is a democratic government usualy goes with the majority rather then making comprimises, so my beliefs dont mean much unless enough of us agree.
Also you could get into the extremes like if potential life is so important then shouldnt we ban periods, wet dreams, premature ejaculation, and masturbation? What about dogs and cats who we destroy any chance they have?
But anyway my opinion on cloning stands. Humans are organisms like anything else on this earth. And why is it ok to clone plants in your opinion exactly? They still think and feel pain on a cellular level.
EDIT: er what I meant to say if I didnt get it accross was
is your opinion. Sry if the qoute doesnt work right, I dunno how to make them.

I dont really agree with that because human birth is one of the most risky births of any mammal, but with slavery theres no risk to you (well unless they revolt I guess). Atleast this disagreement gives the debate board a good start hehe.

Is anyone here against partially cloning humans? For instance, you can simply clone being with hearts or lungs to be given to those who need a transplant.
Anyway, a baby may be an individual organism, but while it has its own DNA, it has neither sentience nor the ability to survive on its own. It relies on the mother for everything, so can it be considered a life form at that time? I don't neccessarily agree with what I just said, but I just want an opinion.
Oh, and what, Commando, is your view on rape? Date rape and the various rape drugs are obviously used to ignore the female's wishes, so she therefore cannot be held responsible. In this position, knowing that it wasn't her "mistake", what should she do?

I'll save my abortion opinions for the other active thread here.
As far as cloning goes, it's something that is going to happen. The same goes for genetic engineering, AI, and many other things that I'm sure not many of us really like. It's going to happen, and all this arguing is most likely just going to put off some huge discovery that will benifit the whole human race. And I wouldn't worry too much about making weapons from all this. If we just let the scientists come up with what they find, they won't make weapons. The only reason they ever do is that their governments force them to.
And rape. What an ugly thing. Why do people feel the need to do that? Can't they just find someone willing?

In this position, knowing that it wasn't her "mistake", what should she do? I have lots of sympathy for the victim but I don't think a child should die for the crimes of the father. IMO the mother should just have the child and give it up for adoption.

What, like a blow up doll? No. Go to the Chicken Ranch or something. But, if they are desparate, it's still better than disobeying the law.
