I played the demo of this at Target yesterday. It only had one playable level which I beat in like 10 minutes. The graphics are just jaw dropping and amazing. The game was really fun. The controller feels almost like the regular xbox controller but it is a bit lighter.
I basically went through the level with only 2 weapons. You can only hold 2 weapons at once. I had the MP40 and the Kar98. For up close action with the enemies I was using the MP40 and mowing them down. From a distance I used the kar98 rifle which was good. I had a few one hit kills but some enemies must have had strong armor because it took several rifle shots to kill a couple of the enemies.
You could also use grenades in the demo and they were plentiful. The first kind is smoke grenades which are great for creating cover. There are several spots in the demo where you should definitely use a smoke grenade. You also get regular fragmentation grenades which blow up the soldiers really well. Once I had to go up a staircase into a room but there were like 5 soldiers in it so I had to toss grenades up there to soften up the enemies.
Speaking of grenades there is also a grenade warning meter. Whenever you (or an enemy) throw a grenade and it lands close to you, a round meter with a picture of a grenade appears with an arrow which points to the grenade. If you are standing near it then it is best to run away to avoid being killed by the grenade. I was only killed by a grenade blast once and they do kill instantly. The enemy soldiers tossed grenades a lot so having the warning meter appear when a grenade is thrown is a very helpful tool.
Whenever I get an XBox 360 this will be a game I definitely get (besides Perfect dark zero).
Also, I'll try and put some screenshots of the game up later. I cant now because I am at school.

Heh, I played it at Wal-Mart.
Anyway, the graphics were excellent but I think they may have been ableto pull it off on the regular xbox. After looking at "Far Cry: Instincts" and seeing those awesome graphics I think that the xbox 360 might have come too early.

Naw. With it's three processors, it's going to be able to handle vast amounts of information at once, letting you play online with little or no lag. Or, no lag from the system anyway.
I also played the demo, at Target. It was pretty nice, although I never bothered to figure out how to chuck those grenades. I never switched off the MP40 either, shooting bursts for close range, and single shots for long. As for that one building with a ton of Germans in it, I ran in and beat half of them down. Of everything that game let you do, I found that smacking people in the head was one of the most effective. But it doesn't show you what the multi is like. It can be assumed that it'll be like regular single player mode, but what if it's not? I mean, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory isn't even the same game in multi mode. So, a multi demo would have been better.

I've had an XBox 360 for ages now. Naturally Call of Duty 2 is a game I first got with the system. It's a great game for sure and I always am playing COD2 or one of the other COD games.
Anyways, I'm almost done with beating this game on veteran. It's definitely very difficult, perhaps so since I rarely play games on the hardest mode. However playing this game on Veteran mode has gotten me interested in playing all the COD games on veteran, not to mention other games as well.
I'm on the next to last mission. That would be the Battle for Hill 400. I'm on the 2nd level (of 3 total) for this mission. In the first mission of hill 400, you had to move through the town just below the hill. You are tasked with clearing out the germans that have set up shop in some of the houses. Honestly that level I found was extremely easy for me on Veteran mode. I think I only died twice.
Now the 2nd mission tasks you with actually climbing up the hill of course. The main objective is to capture the bunker at the very top of the hill. You can't climb straight up though. There are other bunkers you have to get past first of all. Naturally that means many german soldiers are defending the hill. The bunkers have machine guns in them, MG42's to be exact, manned by troops that are ready to shoot you. The other problem is several large minefields dotted around the hill. Stepping in one means certain death!
Anyways getting to the top of the hill you get some extra objectives you must clear. First off you'll have to destroy a half track of some sort, I think its called a panzerwarfer or something? Nor sure of exact spelling.
There also happens to be 2 mortar crews in the area. You'll have to take them out quickly, or else you might get blasted by a mortar shell.
Once thats done though comes the hard part - actually getting inside the bunker. There's so many soldiers here I can't even count how many people I tried to kill. It seems that everytime I kill some of their troops, they keep getting reinforcements. In order to get inside the bunker though you have to plant a satchel charge on the door to blow it up. However, an MG42 is right next to the door and will shoot you if you're not careful.
I've come so close to planting that satchel charge on the door quite a few times. Naturally I throw down some smoke grenades first and make a run for the door. However because of all the enemy troops, they still manage to kill me. I tried to get in that bunker for at least 3 hours this past Tuesday morning (I had off work, so continued playing this) without any luck. I'll keep trying but it may take some time.
After that though comes perhaps an even harder challenge - defend Hill 400 from the German Counter attack. This includes literally a few HUNDRED troops, a few Tiger Tanks, Mortar crews, and even a few Artillery Barrages. Obviously they want their hill back.
The final mission is Crossing the Rhine, which only has one level. I've read that there is a LOT to do in this level though. On veteran this level can be a nightmare. It might be a nightmare but I'm going to try and conquer it. I'll have to though, if I want the achievement - War Hardened (150 points) - Complete the game on Hardened or Veteran.
Still its been an awesome game though. My plan is to finish all of the Call of Duty games on veteran mode. I plan to do this in order though, even if I get really stuck on one game. In other words I'm going to do veteran on COD2, than number 3, 4 Modern Warfare, World at War, and Modern Warfare 2, (and when it comes out, Black Ops).

Well I just got back home yesterday after my annual vacation in Virginia visiting my family. I can now say....
YES YES YES! I finally did it!
While I was there I was focusing on playing nothing but Call of Duty 2 on veteran until I finished it. Aside from the capture 400 part, I had to complete the Defense of Hill 400 mission as well as Crossing the Rhine.
Defending Hill 400 - I didn't have too much trouble actually. Capturing the hill was a nightmare for me but holding it wasnt that bad. At least I didn't die too much. I think the Germans loved eating my grenades though.
Speaking of grenades....my strategy was simply to hang out around the main bunker you capture. You can't actually go inside and camp, just the door outside. I must say the enemies spammed grenades so much it did get to be a pain. It was either stay inside a bit and get blown up by numerous grenades, or go outside and get shot.
What worked for me is staying inside when the mortar shells were being fired, since its instant death to walk outside during that time. Then I actually went outside and crouched down in the corner next to the small wall near the door.
There were a few times I died though due to cheap germans walking on top of me. This prevented me from moving at all (a bug perhaps/) but allowed them to shoot me dead. However I figured out when they would appear and was able to aim and shoot before they sprung their attack.
Crossing the Rhine - Not too bad actually. The first part with the MG42s was a bit tricky but it wasn't terrible. Tossing smoke grenades and then flanking them worked wonders. I had a few deaths towards the end since I wasn't sure where the enemies would come from. However I learned the enemy patterns rather quickly, and was able to finish the rest of the mission with almost no trouble.
So I got the rest of the veteran achievements for the game. Beating the game on veteran was tough at times but it was worth it and very rewarding experience.
Call of Duty 2 is now the 3rd game I have completely finished. By completely finished, I mean all achievements earned, and a 1000/1000 for the games gamerscore. (My other 2 games like that being Dirt and Ski Doo Snowmobile Challenge)
