As posted in the Bond arena, I have an idea for a game that I'd like to run by you guys. The basic premises:
It is the year 2000 B.C. The legendary city of Atlantis has begun its infamous decline into the disfavor of the gods. The rich upper class and the government officials care nothing about philosophy, astronomy, music, or even proper worship; extorting the lower classes and funding their luxurious lifestyles has become their sole purpose, and the once-glorious city of the arts and sciences is falling into corruption and ruin.
However, all hope for the great civilization of the Atlanteans is not yet lost. A handful of devoted priests and priestesses, having seen the signs of the gods' displeasure, are planning open revolt. They've created an underground army fiercely dedicated to the gods of the Pantheon, hell-bent on restoring their beloved city to its former resplendence by whatever means necessary.
If you're interested, post. Let me know what you think, and what you would be interested in playing. (we will not have the gods actually played, but I'm going to put in some kind of speaker for the gods--a priestess, most likely.) I haven't got all the specifics worked out yet, so feel free to give suggestions and comments...

Just a couple of quick questions:
Is the style of this topic action-based, or mainly character based, in that we spend more time characterizing than we do fighting?
Other than upper class and the underground, are there any other groups that players could be?

If all goes as planned, this game will be action-based and fast-moving, but remember kids, characterization is our friend. As with any freeform RP, the gameplay will depend on the players.
There will be plenty of middle classes that go both ways, like merchants, craftsmen, etc. And of course we need councilmen, and double agents on the political scene. The religious class is torn too. There are of course priests and priestesses who are greedy and manipulative. Every class has its oddballs. Basically, you can be anything that would likely exist in a 2000 BC Mediterranean island metropolis. What can I say? I'm a purist. So sue me. ^^ Hmm, I'm starting to think this game might be rather tough to play right with only a few people >.o

Right.
We need to recruit some more before we can really begin.

Sure.
I'll try and persuade George to start an Atlantis draft.
