And it was about an hour ago since I saw what time it was posted. I know life and DB you guys remember that post on the final fantasy board about that get rich quick scheme and the guy asked to send money to a list of people and I think DB posted an article saying its illegal and all that other stuff. I left it there but today I deleted that one on final fantasy since I saw more of the same damned posts appear.
I just came on and saw new posts and they were in the spam category. Someone posted an exact copy of that message on the final fantasy arena so there were 2 topics that said the same thing about the same get rich quick scheme and sending money in the mail. They got deleted. There was another topic by the same poster, a guest, on the "Whats up" and "News" boards. I promptly deleted those spam topics too.
I'm not picky so most topics I let stay and spam only goes on the spam board. Money making schemes I dont want on here as DB did post it is illegal so I dont want illegal stuff on this site. If I see spam of any kind it will get deleted and will NOT be moved to the spam board. Spamming the spam board is fine but remember it is there for fun. If I start seing numerous money making schemes there then they will be deleted.

Good.
You got to test out your admin skills, eh?
Anyway, I personally didn't see it, but it still annoys me that they'd waste their time and ours.

Right then.
I'll keep a lookout for these "money making" topics and try and ban whoever is posting them VIA IP ban.
Oh, and this topic gets the sTiCkEh Of DeWm.

Yes. Before when it happened the guest used was "Tracy" or something like that. Today it was "D TRUMP". What gets me is that the words were exactly the same. No one could have typed it all up because the time difference from each post was like a minute. I think one was 12:51, 12:52 and like 12:54. It was obvious to me that whoever it was simply copied and pasted it and made several new topics. There was only one difference. The rules were the same, the testimonials of people who participated (if thats not made up) were the exact same, the length of it all was the same. The only difference was the list of names at the bottom. Where it says send $1 to these 6 people or something the only difference was the names which were different.
And as I remember from DB's post the first time it happened and he put the rules- I remember he had something that said chain letters are illegal. If it asks for something minor like cooking recipes that was fine but asking for money is against the law. And I don't need anything illegal being discussed on this site and definitely no spam.
When guests post I dont know if it shows their IP or not I never really noticed I guess since no guests really post here. Regardless if you see spam delete it ASAP, if there is an IP then put it on the block/banned list.

Well, technically, chain letters of any kind are against the law in the United States. Regardless of what they are for, they clog up servers/the postal service (depending on the type of letter).
Also, although I saw the one in the FF Arena, I wasn't here to see the other ones. I'll be sure to post here when I find them.

So it wouldn't be wise for anyone here to make a joke spam topic, then?
Not that I would do...
Anyway, hopefully we won't see any more.

Oh, I have another game that I need to put in the Random Board. It'll be called SPAM, but it is not spam. I won't post it untill I get confirmation that it'll be safe.

If its a game you can put it up on random insanity life. It will be fine but if it gets out of hand (I don't think it will) we can delete messages. If someone does come and spam with those chain letter messages I'll delete those. Just post up the rules later or start the topic.

The rules are VERY easy to understand. And very easy to follow. I'll go post it up now.

Everytime I come here (or any proboard) I get bombarded with ads . I'm trying to get my Norton Internet Security to work but its being rather incompetant.

Firefox blocks most of them, but one always gets through. It's annoying, but easy to deal with. I'm betting one of the things in the header or footer is causing it, but I've no idea which one.

I have a good pop up blocker too and it works when it wants to basically. Sometimes it blocks every popup and I can surf this site just fine. Other times it blocks nothing and I get tons of popups. And still at other times it blocks half and I still get half the popups.
As for it being something in the header or footer, I might actually agree. I've been on other proboards sites and of the ones I am a member of, none bombard me with popups as bad as here. Some other proboards sites don't even have ads. So it could be something in the header or footer. I could do some experimenting by removing and adding things to see what works.
However there could be another reason. It might not be the header or footer. Proboards is technically a free site so it does have ads. However you can purchase an AD free site but it is monthly only or by page views I think. So if I were to purchase the Ad Free version there would be no ads period here. None would pop up, and there would not be any of those Ads by google either.
Like I said though its either one of two things. Something in the header/footer which I will experiement with to find out. Or it could simply be that proboards has ads and they are in effect. I could disable them if I purchase ad free but its monthly and I think its quite costly if I go for a yearly one but they don't offer a yearly one I dont think.

In the other two proboards forums I frequent, neither have popups. They may be from proboards, but I don't think so. This forums has had them as long as I can remember, while the others have always had none. Now, it may be the age of the forum, but I did join when it was relatively new.
If it gets too bad, we could always buy that ad free thing. But, we'd all need to contribute to it, which would be a little hard to arrange.

Yeah, I'm guessing it's either the chat room or the tagboard.
Try admuncher. It will stop all the usual adverts on this site, as well as the pop-ups (hopefully).

Try the chatboard first. To my knowledge, we never really use it anyway.

Well the chatroom requires us to stay in the chatroom and not do anything on the forum itself. Doing anything on the forum logs you out of the chatroom. I personally dont like the way its set up. If I could change it, I would, but I can't.
You're right lifebaka we rarely use it. I remember that all of us were only in it once. Thats cause we arranged the time for us to be there but aside from that we rarely use it.
Anyways I just removed the chat rooms Html from the footers page and so far I haven't gotten a pop up since. The pop up blocked hasnt detected any pop ups trying to get through either. So it was the chat room that was causing that bombardment of ads. Well, I guess we won't be using that chat room again. The tagboard is good enough, right?

I got some, then they went away. Probably leftovers, as Proboards is slow sometimes. Then again, it's free.
Yeah, tagboard's fine. I rarely use it, but you three do.

Grr we had that same "fgfd" guest post more spam this morning. Like last time it was a bunch of links. First half of this so called post was about online doctorate degrees. At least 50 different links all of which were fake and had page cannot be displayed errors. The other half was more of that japanese or spanish stuff whatever it was. But that foul offending spam is now gone. Again.
Also this time it appeared on the Playstation 3 board. Hopefully this doesnt keep up though. I dont need or want this guy coming around placing spam every day or two.

Grrr more and more friggen spam! This is getting annoying. Right now I have it set so that guests can view the boards and read them. I think most boards they can post in but I have it set for guests to post because more people SHOULD ACT RESPONSIBLE and not to STUPID THINGS like wasting server space with ads. Several times a week some idiot guest named "dang dang" randomly posts links which lead simply to websites that dont exist, plus try to infect your computer with a virus on occasion. I've deleted them as I see them but im getting annoyed that guests have to F*** up everything like this.
Second, the tagboard. Lately several people post their names on the tagboard with something stupid like "Buy (insert name of drug here)". This is NOT a drug site and I dont want any of that garbage on here. They seem to post nice comments about the site. But what they are doing is bad and I wish they would stop posting their comments. As some of you may know you can make your name on the tagboard "Clickable" by typing in an email (no one is doing this) or a URL link to a website. Well these idiots with the "Buy (Drug name)" usernames are posting urls to ad sites to buy these drugs. Worse, the sites they try to lead you (us) to, contain viruses which so far I see to be trojans.
I made the mistake of clicking one of the links out of curiosity. Thank god I have an excellent virus detection system which saw the trojan immediately and deleted it the second i went to the bad site. Just to be safe I am running a thorough virus scan. If this keeps up with these A$$HOLE$ putting links to virus's in the tagboard I'LL DELETE THE DAMNED THING. If that A$$HOLE dang dang whatever the hell his name is keeps posting spam crap as a guest, I'll change the board settings so that YOU WILL BE FORCED TO LOG IN BEFORE ACCESSING THE SITE. That sounds like a good idea so then guests won't be able to view the forum and must either register for an account or leave the site.
If I do that and I see people making spam accounts well I'll change settings again. This time so new accounts NEED ADMINSISTRATOR AUTHORIZATION to be activated or else they WONT BE ABLE TO POST.
I'll gladly delete the tagboard if I must and I WILL CHANGE THE SETTINGS if this $hit keeps up. Sorry to have this bad language but I'm really starting to get Pi$$ed. Most of this trouble is from the header and footer stuff anyways. I will most likely wind up deleting the rest of the headers and footers on the main page. Since the popups still happen, I may as well delete everything from the EXTRA CONTENT board too. I'll start with the things I KNOW CAUSE ADS and get rid of them. However I will gladly delete all those comics which I enjoy reading even if I have to take like an hour reading them on the actual site then like 5 minutes to read them here.
