Has anyone ever been to a jillians before? I've been to the one at the Franklin Mills Mall over in PA. It's a big place. They have lots of features there such as:
Bowling Alley- Dont know how many lanes though. Looks big though.
Pool tables- They have at least a good 30 pool tables.
Restaurant/Bar- They have a restaurant where you can eat. I havent ate there yet so I dont know what they have. I want to try it sometime. They also have a bar for alcoholic beverages.
Sports Lounge/Bar- I dont know how many TVs they have but I know they have several big screen tvs where you can go to watch sports games.
Meeting rooms- If you need to have a meeting either business or with friends I guess you can do that.
Parties- You can have a party there. The place is huge.
Arcade- My favorite part. They have at least 50 or so games. Lots of new games. Shooting, racing, lots of stuff. It's all new though. They don't have any old classics. However one difference is that the machines do NOT accept quarters or tokens. They use a "CARD SYSTEM". If you have never been there then you wont be able to play the games. You have to go to the register and buy a players card. All your tokens/credits are stored on the card. When you want to play a game you swipe your card through the card reader. The reader then takes away tokens/credits from your card and transfers the credit to the game, allowing you to play 1 game. If you lose you have to swipe the card again to continue.
When I was there back in late august I got one of the cards. You can get anywheres from $10 up to $25 I think. I got a $25 one since it has more tokens and credits. Also for new cards there is a $2 card activation fee. If you run out of credits you go back to the register and give them money and they put more credits on your card but you dont have to pay the 2 dollar fee again. Also the cards dont expire so you can use the credits on them anytime. I had like 150 tokens/credits on the card before and was down to like 40 before I had to go. (Most games are between 2.7 tokens up to 5.2) Today I got low and had like 1 credit left which wasnt enough for anything so I got $10 worth of credits and had like 45 credits/tokens now.
I went and played more games for a bit. A round of crazy taxi, A round of Tokyo Cop, Police 911 #2, Strike force bowling (something like that. They have hyperforce bowling but thats a whopping 24 credits! Thasts like $6 to play if you think about it. 4 credits/tokens = $1 so 4 8 12 16 20 24 thats $6 to play hyperforce bowling? No way. Its more realistic though they have like a movie screen on the wall and to play you move your hands on a bowling ball to get it moving on screen. There are seats to to sit down. The one I played was like 3 credits and had a similar concept. Lets see I played some Ghost Squad, new shooter and I love that one. Golden tee golf 2005.
My mom had come in sometime during this to go to some store. The jillians is connected to the mall so she went to one of her stores. I went to look for her and didn't see her so back to the arcade. I probably had like 25 credits left. I go to play LA MACHINE GUNS i think its called. I beat the first stage no problem the boss killed me and I went to swipe my card and continue. Looking at the 2nd machine gun (there are 2 since it can be played with 2 people) there was another one of those player cards sitting on the machine. So I grab it and stick it in my pocket. I had swiped my card already so I put mine in my other pocket. Once I came to the point to continue I took out the card that I found on the machine and used that to continue. To my surprise there was like just under 100 tokens/credits on the machine. I know that because after you swipe the card the card reader on the machine tells you how many tokens/credits you have. I used that one I found just once and it had just under 100 on it. So I found a card that has like almost $25 worth of credits on it so next time I go and finish my card, I'll be able to use the card I found and play $25 worth of games for free.
Yes I did state that $25 got me like 140 or 150 credits whatever but thats because they give you bonus credits. They give you 4 credits for every dollar but if you get the $25 one you get bonus credits im not sure how much so the card I found was used. Someone obviously was playing and forgot the card was there. I figure "Their loss, my gain". Now I have 2 cards with credits/tokens and can play more games. They don't have names or anything on them so their is noway to tell whose card it was. The cards can't be cancelled either. So basically its "If you lose the card you have to buy a new one". So looks like someone has to buy a new card. I can play games at the expense of someone else.
I didn't ask anyone if they lost a card (after all anyone could say they lost it just to get a free card). If someone came to me and asked if I found a card, Id say "No, sorry I didn't find any cards". I had took a brief glance at several other games, looking to see if I could find any more cards but no luck. Near that hyperbowl bowling game though at one point I was watching someone play. Their kid had a giant thing of tickets they won from skeeball or something. After I found my mom and we were walking through the jillians to leave, I looked near the bowling game and found just 2 tickets on the ground. Those went in my pocket too. They are only 5 point tickets but hey I can save them up and maybe get a game or something for PS2.
Also, they don't have many Jillians in the usa. I think theres only 9 since the locations are printed on the back of the players card you get. I guess you can say they are evenly spread out across the usa somewhat. The locations are:
Hanover, Maryland
Concord, North Carolina
Farmingdale, New York
Westbury, New York
Phoenix, Arizona
Nashville, Tennessee
Bloomington, Minnesota
Houston, Texas
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The one in pennsylvania is right at the franklin mills mall as I said earlier. I've been there twice. I don't think I'll be at any of the other locations though since we dont travel. If I had to pick one, I'd guess that I'd get to go to the one in Houston Texas. I am in the ocean county vocational school now as a post secondary in the graphic design class. I joined the DECA club again. I dont know when the competitions are this year but the National competition is usually in late april/early may and I know for a fact that this year the nationals are in Houston, Texas. So if I qualify to go to nationals then most likely I may get to go to the Houston Texas Jillians depending on where it is of course.
