I must say, I have been disappointed with the most recent installations of RE, but from what I have heard, Outbreak looks as if is going to be one hell of a ride.
Anyone know the extent of the offline RE play?

I've heard that the offline single player mode has predetermined item spawn points. In each game the items will always appear in the same spots.
In the online mode its completely random. Items will always be in different spots. Once a box of handgun bullets may be on a table but the next online game you play that table may have a first aid spray.
Offline is just like the previous Resident evil games. It has a story and all and items appear in the same areas. Online mode will be better as there will be more variety on account of items randomly switching around. No two online games will ever be the same. Well maybe they will but it will take a while before you see any repetition in online play of resident evil outbreak.

Your welcome.
The game is out now but I haven't played it yet. I've read a little of the Brady Games official strategy guide which I also don't have. I usually read the book when I go to Target or Walmart.

The games been out for a while. It's a great game of course. Resident evil is great and has always been great offline and in single player but now with online play the game is even better then before. The game is just plain friggin awesome.

Outbreak has been out for a while. It is ok but in my opinion it wasn't as good as the other resident evil games. Sure there are 5 scenarios and a lot of characters. You start with 8 characters and can unlock like 20 more. Accomplishing certain tasks in each scenario will unlock stuff in the gallery and youll get more result points. You can go in the gallery to buy what you want to unlock. An interesting concept.
I still think resident evil 2 is the best in the series and the first one was pretty good too. Also the Resident evil remake on gamecube was also great. Resident evil 4 hopefully will be good. Outbreak is average in my opinion. I mean it didnt get that many good reviews in magazines. It got mostly average reviews because thats simply what it is- average. It was ok and it definitly is a new twist to the series. One thing that sucks is that each character canonly hold 4 items (unless they have special items to hold more). That sucks. All the other RE games you had either 6 or 8 item slots now its just 4 which makes it even harder. The bosses in the game simply suck because they are too easy. It's not even a challenge. I think the game itself is just too easy even if you play through in very hard mode.
I'm kind of thinking that resident evil outbreak file 2 is going to be similar to this- 5 more scenarios, 8 starting characters, and around like 150 stuff in the gallery to unlock. If thats what the game is I might not even get it. I'll probably rent it once or borror from a friend but I think that the PS2 resident evil games sucked so far. Outbreak was fair but could have been better. Dead Aim seemed to have nothing to do with the resident evil series at all. It seemed like a totally different game the only difference was the name had resident evil. Plus that game was way too easy as well. Code Veronica X was actually pretty good. It was like the first RE game on PS2 and probably the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be.

My favourite is still RE:3, though the original comes pretty close. I personally didn't like VX, but the book was good.
