This is really sad for me. I'm a practicing Catholic and John Paul II has been Pope my whole life. After 25 years of holding the office of Pope though it looks like this is the end. What do you guys think about this? How will this affect the world and what is going on now?

From what I hear no one has any idea how the vote may go. Or rather, they can't all agree. As I can see it, it's wide open for anyone to win. Anyone not too old, that is.

Yeah I heard that benedict guy, the new pope, is a german guy. Tuesday at the grocery store I work at some of the cashiers were talking about it and said who he was and that he was german.

I have high hopes personally for Benedict XVI and support him completely (in matters of theology and doctrine we are very similar). The sad thing though is his past. He was forced into the Hitler youth/German Army and the media almost made it seem that he agreed with the nazis.

No one who's a cardinal can. It'd look bad on the church. If he was, they would have bared him from becoming a cardinal. I am personlay not very impressed with the direction he (as I can see it) wants to take the church. But I'm pretty liberal, so...

Well, there's no way to not modernize more. It's going to happen, but lets not have it happen to fast. Or too slow either.
